Love in Full Bloom
Creating Beauty from the Heart
Working with fresh flowers in the depths of winter—especially when those flowers are destined to celebrate love in all its forms—brings so much joy.
This week, I stood at my dining room table surrounded by five wholesale bouquets, their fragrant stems sprawled across the wood waiting to be transformed into beautiful arrangements. I chose these bundles knowing I wanted to create six unique vases: some for our dinner guests, and others to give as Valentine’s gifts to people who matter in my life.
Valentine’s week isn’t just about romantic love—it’s about celebrating connection. The friend who always picks up the phone. The neighbor who needs a friendly hug and a pick-me-up. The family member who remembers the little things. Each bouquet I created carried that spirit: thoughtful, personal, and rooted in gratitude.
The Art of Arrangement
Creating beautiful bouquets isn’t about following strict rules—it’s about trusting your instincts and working with what’s in front of you. Those five bunches offered variety: different textures, heights, colors, and personalities. By spreading them out and really seeing what I had to work with, I could pull stems that spoke to each other, creating combinations that felt both intentional and effortless.
Some arrangements leaned romantic and soft. Others felt bold and celebratory with unexpected greenery. The key was letting each bouquet develop its own character rather than trying to make them all match.
Celebrating All Year Long
Valentine’s Day has become a tradition of floral abundance in our home—a series of small moments rather than one grand gesture. These bouquets will find their way to people who’ve made a difference in my life, brightening their spaces and hopefully reminding them that they’re seen and appreciated.
There’s profound joy in creating beauty with your own hands and sharing it with others. It’s the same philosophy that guides everything we do here at the homestead: nurture what matters, create with intention, and share abundantly.
